A propos de cet article

BELGIUM THE COCKPIT OF EUROPE BY A.R. HOPE MONCRIEFF 1920 32 FULL-PAGE COLOR PLATES NICE MAP. Frankly, I had to look into the title of this book to figure out where we were talking about and why The Cockpit of Europe . It was an easy answer; Belgium has been the scene of many epic battles over the centuries, hence the allusion to the country being a cockpit where the roosters came to fight. This medium-sized hard cover book (6 ½ x 8 ¾ inches, 210 pages plus 2 pages of publisher s adverts) was published by Adam and Charles Black of London and dated 1920. The book is bound in red cloth with decorative black & gilt framing and gilt titles on cover and spine. All 32 of the full-page, full-color plates are present; I know as I checked (although one plate Heidelberg is loose but present). There is a nice fold-out map after the last page of text. Condition: This book is in very good condition. There is a small shallow scrap on the front cover and the lower corners of the boards are worn and a bit frayed. There is some finish loss and a dark spots at the base of the rear board and on the upper spine. Inside the former owners have left their bookplate but that is the only mark I found in the book. The tissue-guard of the Frontispiece has left its shadow on the title page. The interior pages and plates are all clean and bright, without toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact and the binding is tight and sound (except for the one plate loose but present). This book is not ex-library or a remainder. Language: ENG.…
