Version without dropped quad mark to copyright page but with vertical 'North' pointer on the endpapers. Boards have a spine lean, a little bumping to the bottom right corner of the front panel and slight surface wear. Page edges are browned with light spotting and a small stain to the top edges. Brown spotting to the endpapers. Trace of a price and some writing in pencil to the half-title page which also has a place name and date to the reverse along with a small of tippex covering the name. Pages a little browned but otherwise generally unmarked. Jacket is quite worn. There is four inch closed tear to the right edge of the front panel and two inches closed tear at the bottom of the spine - there are tape marks to the reverse where these have been repaired in the past. There are also a few small edge and surface tears, a ring stain to the centre of the front panel and a number of small patches of surface wear. Jacket illustration by Tom Adams. First printing.
