A propos de cet article
Thin 8vo. Each letter of the alphabet has a full page full color illustration of a member of the military in caricature, and a comic caption on the following page. Bound in red, white and blue cloths, gilt spine title, full color paste-on to the upper board in a gilt frame. Only a trace of soil; a near fine copy. With a handwritten presentation "General Pennypacker from Eleanor" followed by (in the General's hand), "(From Miss Eleanor S. Nicholson -- Philadelphia, December 25th, 1894.)" Galusha Pennypacker (1844-1916) was a Union general during the War Between the States. He is to this day the youngest person to hold the rank of brigadier general in the U.S.Army and the only general too young to vote for the president who appointed him (or anybody else, for that matter.) Only the Marquis de LaFayette was younger (at age 19) when he became Major General in the Continental Army.
