In the letter, M. Nicholson for Webster Evans, Editor of Country Life Books, answers a question from one Mr Scott regarding this work, and explains 'I am very sorry but we are unable to resolve your Eric Ravilious problem [.] if I could have consulted the original agreement, I could have found how many illustrations Ravilious was asked to do, but that is now impossible'.Organized by month, the book offers a seasonal approach to cooking, reflecting the rhythms of rural life and the availability of ingredients throughout the year.
