Trois volumes in Folio (350x220 mm), (40)-763-(1 bl.) / (28)-731-(1 bl.) / (36)-863-(1 bl.) pages. References : Sotheran [1st suppl. 1033 : "rare"], DSB [III, p. 621 : "Cantor gives a detailed description of the Cursus both because it was a popular and widely used textbook and because it refleted the totality of mathematical knowledge as possessed by dilettantes or amateurs mathematicians"]. ___________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________ENGLISH_DESCRIPTION : Contemporary full mottled sheep, spine gilt in seven compartments, title in gilt on lettering-piece. Binding rubbed with lack of leather on lower cover of part 3, caps and corners worn. Light waterstains and foxing. Title pages reinforced at inner margins, erased stamps and lot of ownership inscriptions, without free endpaper. First edition of the most important work of Milliet Dechalles. Complete Mathematics course, which also covers other topics sciences (mechanical, architecture, optics, perspective, astronomy, .). We usually meet the second edition published in 1690 in four volumes. This first edition, complete in three volumes is quite rare. Copy with some old annotations to the first two volumes and more copiously to the chapter "Astronomy" in volume 3, with in particular three sheets of notes added to volume 3 between pages 404 and 405 and at the end.
