A propos de cet article

1of 300 PRESENTATION COPIES. This is number 36 presented to Kimo Martin. Included with the book are several pieces of ephemera including a prospectus for the book, a Zen Institute postcard to the original recipient signed by Mary Farkas, and a brochure from The First Zen Institute of America. The book is bound in the original gray cloth covered boards with gilt lettered spine and blind embossed Chinese seal on the rear cover. In a brown printed dust jacket. The jacket is persimmon-juice coated handmade Japanese paper known as Shibugami. It was popular in Japan in feudal times but is rare today. 146 pages with a tipped-in color frontispiece of Daikan Eno Daishi. Bound in at the rear are three large fold-out tables: The Zen Masters of the T'ang Era; The Origins of the Soto, Ummon, and Hogen Sects; and The Rinzi Sect. Ruth Fuller Sasaki was abbess of the Zen temple of Ryosen-an, Daitoku-ji, Kyoto, where she served as director of the First Zen Institute of America. This important text was one of the early books Sasaki saw to completion at The First Zen Institute with the help of Philip Yampolsky, Burton Watson, and the poet Gary Snyder. A clean, very good copy with the usual tan offsetting from the jacket flaps to the flyleaves otherwise bright and nice. The dust jacket is very good with some evidence of old damping at top of the rear flapfold. In a protective archival mylar cover. A nice looking copy.…
