A propos de cet article

xvi + 578pp. 8.5 x 5.5 inch. Text in Latin and Greek. still tightly bound and apart from some foxing throughout the interior is in nice clean condition with no deliberate marks. Gilt titling and decoration to leather spine, top edges gilt, matching marbled boards and end-papers. Coming from the famous Portal collection at Laverstoke which was sold off in the 1990s it has been well preserved, it contains the armorial bookplate of Melville Portal (1819-1904) as well as his name and 'Ch. Ch 1838' handwritten neatly on 1st blank - presumably referring to Christ Church at Oxford where he was educated after leaving Harrow. He was an MP, JP, and High Sheriff of Hampshire. Photos attached include pages 100-101 - as I have for each volume to give a better idea of condition. Title roughly translates to "The Complete Works of Euripides, Faithfully Reproduced from the Most Excellent Editions, Illustrated With a Latin Interpretation, Ancient Scholars, and the Observations of The Learned. And also inserted with Indexes of all kind.".…
