First Edition. Original publisher's brown cloth binding with gilt lettering on spine. Small gilt decoration of a bust of Darwin in side profile on front cover. 6" x 8 3/4." 274 pages, complete. Five black-and-white plates, complete. List of Plates in front. Index in back. Five additional pages in back advertise other books about natural history and the life sciences. Former owner's pencil signature in top margin of title page: "Lewis C. Carson." Pages are very clean and intact except for light age toning, occasional pencil annotations, and the former owner's signature. Covers are very clean and intact except for light rubbing, a few small surface marks, and a few small bumps and slight wear to extremities. A Very Good copy. This is a collection of addresses that were originally given by different speakers in honor of Charles Darwin before the American Association for the Advancement of Science on January 1, 1909.
