A propos de cet article

Hardback. First Edition. The First Churchill. Slight shelf wear to edge of D/J. John, Duke of Marlborough, was the first Churchill to achieve fame and fortune. His father had been ruined fighting for Charles I, and the ason's prospects looked meagre. But through the favour of a rich and amorous lady he was, with his great good looks, launched as courtier and soldier. In both roles he mingled dissimulation with audacity while preserving an inpenetrable mask of urbanity. He cuckoleded Charles II, betrayed James II and became the distrusted association of William III. He prospered greatly. But he had to wait for supreme glory until he was fifty. Then on the battlefield of Blenheim he and Prince Eugene of Savoyr inflicted a shattering defeat on the French. France's hegemony was shaken. Britain was recorgnised for the first time as a major military factor in the world. Illustrated. 338 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions, Reference books ,and all types of Academic Literature.).…
