A propos de cet article

Stated First Printing, First Edition. The author writes: 'This book is a fragment of an autobiography, or a piece (a seven-year piece) of my life. The events in so far as they concern the narrator are true. But while truth is stranger than fiction it sometimes requires the needle of fiction to pull it together for a book. That is where the other people come in. These characters are composite pictures made from the elemental parts of many real people. No one character was or is an actual living person.' So it seems to be both nonfiction and fiction, hard to categorize. From the dust jacket: 'By the very nature of this book, the name of the author of The Frog Pond must be a pen name, and so we are permitted to talk about Joyce MacIver with somewhat less inhibition that might ordinarily obtain. Joyce had a problem, but the fact that it was a terrifying problem does not make it necessarily unique. Her problem was not men, but a certain type of aggressive man in whose presence she became numb, hypnotized as it were, a victim devoid of will, powerless to act in her own self-interest or even self-preservation. In the simplest and most scarifying terms, one might almost say that she was looking for a man to murder her. This is a shocking thing to say, but the record is there for all who care to read. But The Frog Pond is not only Joyce MacIver's story. It is also the story of Toni, "the pixie from Brooklyn," the changeling of Analytical Alley, and of the beautiful exhibitionist Daphne, who shared her duplex apartment in New York. Together, the three young women also shared their hopes and their blues, their man-hunts, their sessions of analysis, their experiences with frigidity and the other side of the coin. Can one speak of a modern, spine-chilling adventure of the psyche? This is it, and it begins the moment that Joyce decides to seek help to conquer her terrible compulsion. It continues through doctor after doctor in a series of startling episodes so fascinating in themselves that it is not until later the reader realizes he has experienced an astonishing and devastating exposé of certain varieties of psychoanalytic practice. The escapades, the parties, the encounters, the loves and frustrations of the three women are told with amazing candor, humor and skill as they, their lovers, their doctors, their friends and their enemies emerge and make themselves known to us.' The condition of the book and jacket is, fortunately, a much less complicated affair. You can see the covers of the book in the last few photos. They are very clean. The gilt and silver lettering on the spine is nicely bright. There is a little crinkling at the spine ends. The six edges are in great shape. The four corners are in great shape as well. The page edges are clean. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. There are no binding issues. The interior of the book is in excellent shape. I've scrolled through the 412 pages several times without finding any instances of soiling. The white inside covers and end papers are very clean as well. I didn't find any creasing. A light nick to the middle edge created a little nothing at the edge of eight early pages, no tears, not even a crease, a nick. There are no markings anywhere in the book. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. You can see the dust check in the first few photos. I've always had it in a fitted protective cover. It has a minimum of wear, a little bit of scuffing at the spine ends, light bits of the same at a few corners and at parts of the spine edges. The spine is faded to a lighter red than the front and rear. The white flaps are very clean. The top edge of the rear flap has a bit of crinkling. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. However, the original price has a small pen line through it and another price is written below that.…

Description de la boutique

Many of the books I will be selling can accurately be described as ranging from somewhat rare to very rare. In some cases there won't be another copy for sale anywhere on the Internet. There doesn't seem much point, for you or me, in offering something that so many others are already offering. Subject matter will range very widely, creating the possibility for people with very different interests to find something that excites them. As regards pricing, my primary goal is to sell the book. Most often I would expect my book to be the least expensive option on the Internet taking into account an appropriate comparison(what is the condition, is the dust jacket present, is the book signed, is it a first printing, etc.). More important than selling the book I want to make sure that you know, as much as is possible, exactly what you are getting. To that end, you'll notice that my descriptions of condition tend to be lengthy, and that there will always be photographs to help you draw your own conclusions. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about a given book. As regards international shipping, the first class or standard rates I charge are based on a package weight between 2 and 3 pounds. If the book is on the thin side there is a possibility that I can securely pack it up under 2 pounds in weight. If so, the shipping price will drop by around $11.00 or $12.00 to $26.00-27.00. Canada, which is less expensive drops to $18.00. You can contact me before purchasing a book for an estimate on the shipping cost. If you buy the book and it weighs in below 2 pounds you'll get a Reduced Shipping message and amount with the invoice and you'll see the lowered final cost before you make your payment.…
