Shoghi Effendi possessed a profound insight into the lives of Jesus Christ, the exalted Founder of Christianity 2000 years ago in Israel, and the Báb, the exalted Founder of Bábí Faith in Persia, whose declaration took place in 1844, a year centered on a period during which some Christian scholars worldwide expected the return of Christ. With reference to the lives of the Founders of the world's great religions, Shoghi Effendi declared, "The passion of Jesus Christ, and indeed his whole public ministry, alone offer a parallel to the Mission and death of the Báb, a parallel no student of comparative religion can fail to perceive or ignore." Bahá'ís believe 1844 marks the beginning of the Bahá'í cycle, as the Báb heralded the appearance of Bahá'u'lláh, the exalted Founder of the Bahá'í Faith, who declared his mission in 1863. The whole story provokes the reader to ponder the meaning of a prophetic statement from the Christian Old Testament in Psalms 24:9~10: "Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of Glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory.".
