A propos de cet article

Title continues ".with the caterpillars and the plants on which they are generally found" No Date [1860?]; pp. vi, 206. 62 hand-coloured lithographic plates of moths and their larvae and foodplants, most with original tissue guards. In this copy the backgrounds are less extensively coloured, but still very attractive plates with the colour of the moths vivid and often heightened with gum arabic. Original red pictorial cloth binding stamped in gilt. All edges gilt. Binding very good with a little general wear and rubbing to edges, spine somewhat faded and gilt dulled, slightly marked and nicked to the head/tail of the spine. Contents clean and tight, neat signature and address to front free end-paper; paper a little toned, plate 35 slightly defective to top edge and top of fore-edge, but not nearly affecting image. A very good tight copy. (Bibliographical note: This book was also published by Paul Jerrard and Son and the Jerrard edition is superior with more extensive and detailed colouring than the Allman editions, though the latter differs significantly from copy ot copy in both quality and degree of hand-colouring, with some, nearly all the background flowers are coloured and in others very few are coloured) Size: 4to (approx. 18 x 27cm).…
