A propos de cet article

Early reprint. --- First Edition, third impression, published in December 1936. 8vo. (8.7 x 5.7 inches). Neat previous owner name to the front free endpaper and some light spotting to the first and last couple of blank leaves and the closed fore-edge but generally a very good clean copy throughout. Bump to the top front inner corner of the binding that has left a light crease to the top of the pages in the first third of the book. Publishers original dark blue cloth binding. Spine with gilt lettering and four gilt ruled lines. Four blind ruled lines to the boards. In the scarce original printed dustwrapper, which has some minor chipping to the top of the spine, which is also toned, and a one inch long closed tear, without any loss, to the top rear panel. Overall a very good, clean copy in a very good dustwrapper. A presentable copy of this early printing, issued the same year and the same format as the first edition. ------- The previous owner name on the front free endpaper is W. E. Williams, very possibly Sir William Emrys Williams, CBE, (1896 - 1977), Broadcaster, Writer and most notably Editor in chief at Penguin Books from 1936 to 1965 and married to the economist Gertrude Rosenblum Williams, CBE. CEMA was government funded and was chaired initially by Lord De La Warr, President of the Board of Education and by John Maynard Keynes from 1941. Williams was appointed a CBE in 1946 and knighted in 1955. In 1964 he was given the American Medal of Freedom. His portrait hangs in the National Portrait Gallery, London and a bronze bust of his portrait is held in the Arts Council art collection. …
