A propos de cet article

Description :

233pp. Quarto [28 cm] Brown cloth with the title gilt stamped on the front board and backstrip. All edges gilt. Near fine. Author's posthumous love letter to the Indian Country of the four corners region that is nicely illustrated with more than a hundred sepia tinged views (some are full-page), by the author. Sections on the Navajo, Hopi, Zuni, Acoma, as well as the surrounding area, including the Grand Canyon. Section on the Hopi includes an illustrated chapter on the Snake Clan and their dance. Daniel H. Mitchell (1882-1909) was a native of Cincinnati, who after graduating from Harvard, went west to seek adventure. Arriving in Gallup in 1905, the eastern transplant formed a partnership with Charles L. Day, an Indian trader from St. Michaels, Arizona. Together they developed the Malpais Ranch and Trading Company of Navajo, Arizona, dealing in cattle, sheep, and Indian trade goods. Thus began Mitchell's close relationship with the Navajo, Hopi, Zuni and other peoples of the American Southwest. N° de réf. du vendeur 10471
