A propos de cet article

First edition, rare deluxe commemorative corporate presentation issue bound in the original full brown suede (reverse calfskin). Quarto (approx. 29 x 23 cm). Top edge gilt. xvi, 129 pp. Complete with illustrated frontispiece, 23 plates (including tipped-in colour illustrations and portraits), and the large fold-out colour map at the rear. A monumental corporate history commissioned for the 250th anniversary of the granting of the Royal Charter to the Hudson's Bay Company. This highly limited deluxe binding format was reserved exclusively for presentation to elite trade partners, institutions, and dignitaries. The original anniversary suede binding is in very good, clean condition, showing only light surface scratches and minor expected toning. The binding remains remarkably tight, square, and solid. The text block is firm and securely attached; there is some cracking starting at the internal rear paper hinge, but the board remains securely held by the robust exterior suede joint. Internally, the pages are exceptionally clean, bright, and free from foxing, with just a touch of light, natural age-toning. The fold-out map is fully intact. A beautifully preserved, structurally sound example of a notoriously fragile binding. This copy features an exceptional, original paste-down presentation bookplate from the Governor and Committee of the Hudson's Bay Company to P. R. Poland & Son. Established in London in 1785, P. R. Poland & Son was one of the world's most historic and enduring fur and skin merchant firms, operating across nine generations. A premier association copy directly linking the legendary Canadian fur-trapping enterprise to its core historic London marketplace. …
