Illustrated throughout with vibrant colour plates, present here are four first edition volumes of U. P. Hedrick's studies of cultivated fruit trees in New York. Four first edition volumes of American botanist and horticulturist Ulysses Prentiss Hedrick's writings on cultivated fruit trees. These are now considered to be classic reference works on fruit tree cultivation in the early 20th century. Present here are: 'The Grapes of New York' (1908), illustrated with a portrait frontispiece and fifty-six colour plates. Collated, complete. 'The Cherries of New York' (1915), illustrated with a portrait frontispiece and one-hundred colour plates. Collated, complete. 'The Peaches of New York' (1917), illustrated with a portrait frontispiece and ninety-two colour plates. Collated, complete. 'The Small Fruits of New York' (1925), illustrated with a portrait frontispiece and ninety-four colour plates. Collated, complete. With the bookplate of Edward Braxton Reynolds to front pastedown of Cherries, Small Fruits and Peaches. Reynolds was former president of the Association of Public Analysts, known in his later years for being the man who brought Truro its first sex shop. Inscription to Cherries front free endpaper. Inscription to Grapes front pastedown and owner's stamp to front free endpaper. In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Externally, vibrant. Light areas of fading to front board and back strip tail of Cherries. Grapes hinges significantly strained with boards tenderly held. Bookplates to front pastedown of three volumes, inscription of front pastedown of one volume and front free endpaper of one volume. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally bright and generally clean, with the odd spot. Very Good.
