The FIRST ENGLISH EDITION of Louis Moréri's Le grand dictionnaire historique, 1674. Published only once, in a single volume, during his lifetime, it was expanded greatly after his death (in 1680), with at least 24 editions printed up to 1759, the last being printed in ten volumes. The Great Historical, Geographical and Poetical Dictionary was a precursor to Pierre Bayle's The Historical and Critical Dictionary, 1697, which sought to expand the scope and correct the deficiencies of Moréri's work.
