A propos de cet article

A first printing published in 1975 - a small pamphlet in the 'Viewing Hants & Dorset Series'. With four pages of monochrome illustrations at the centre. ***Very good in dark-pink illustrated glossy card covers, stapled at the spine. The covers are clean and unmarked - just slightly rubbed at the edges. The white back cover is very clean. No creases or tears. Light fading to the pink colour at the spine. Internally near fine with no previous ownership inscriptions. Interior pages clean with no foxing. No creases or tears. ***200mm x 124mm. 32 pages. ***'Witchcraft, as a country's only or main religion, so that it appeared as a normal unremarkable state of affairs, has not been practised within recorded memory. Which may account for the fear with which it was regarded in the early days of Christianity, in Britain. There was no record easily available of its normality before the growth of Christianity, synchronising with the birth and rapid growth of communication skills, ensuring its being regarded as an abnormality, and a sinful one into the bargain. And obediently mankind has alternately titillated and terrified itself ever since, with stories of witches and their doings. The writer does not propose to do either, wishing only to interest, record and perhaps now and again to amuse.' (Quote taken from the Introduction) ***A very interesting pamphlet - surprisingly uncommon in any printing. A lovely copy of this fragile item. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only, and we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate (e.g. for paperbacks and pamphlets). For heavier books and sets, please contact us for postal rates before ordering, especially if purchasing from outside the UK.…
