Item description from seller

BOOK DESCRIPTION: 8vo, 61 pgs., frontis portrait, photo illustrations and portraits. Original green cloth with silver gilt title on cover. Former ownership signature of William F. Miller, Co. E, 15th Massachusetts. CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Light rubbing to edges and spine ends. Interior is clean and tight. With clear mylar wrapper. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: Published under the direction of the Excursion Committee, this work details the journey taken to the major Battlefields of Gettysburg, Antietam and Ball’s Bluff, and to Washington D.C. by the reunion group of veterans and their friends. The work is both a historical account and tribute to the experiences of the 15th Mass. The regiment was engaged in many battles from Ball's Bluff to Petersburg, and suffered the tenth highest fatality rate amongst Federal regiments. At Gettysburg, the 15th was among the most heavily engaged Massachusetts units on the second day of fighting. The regiment was composed almost entirely of men from Worcester County, and was mustered in on July 12, 1861. The author was the son of the unit's commanding officer, George Hull Ward, who was killed at Gettysburg. Likely produced in small numbers, this volume is rather scarce and not often offered for sale. This copy with a nice unit association and ownership. REFERENCES: DORNBUSCH Mass 201A.
