First-edition historical recount of the Burke and Hare murders. Illustrated with numerous plates. Uncommon first edition.Illustrated with seven monochrome plates. Collated, complete. With two pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear of the text. From George Mac Gregor, author of The History of Glasgow (1881). In this insightful volume, Mac Gregor recounts the history of the Burke and Hare murders, a series of 16 murders committed in Edinburgh in 1828. Mac Gregor links the murders to the height of the Resurrectionist Movement, as the corpses were sold to anatomist Robert Knox for dissection. In brown cloth binding. Externally, smart with the odd mark. Slight bumping and rubbing, resulting in minor loss of cloth, especially to joints and title piece. Internally, generally firmly bound. Binding more fragile towards the front and rear of the text. Sporadic spotting heavier to the first and last few pages, otherwise relatively bright and clean. Good. N° de réf. du vendeur 988b8
