An uncommon first edition of this important volume, which was well received, admired and plundered and let to s second edition appearing in 1756. Bound in period calf which is quite rubbed. The spine has been replaced / rebacked by a fine assumed goatskin or morocco binding with 7 raised spinne bands and a new spine label. Uses the existing endpapers. Two volumes in one with 282 and 325 pages respectively. There is some significant marginallia, with perhaps a quarter of the pages with ink notations in the margins in an unknown hand.
