A propos de cet article
First edition. 12mo. 188pp. Sympathetic modern gray printed papercovered boards with new endpapers. Untrimmed. A couple of small stains on the first couple of leaves, scattered foxing on the edges of the untrimmed leaves, internally very good or better, the binding is fine. Published anonymously by Lydia Maria Child, the noted abolitionist and advocate for woman suffrage, her first book, a novel set in the early 17th Century about a white woman who marries a Native American man, causing scandal. The novel was controversial and sold poorly, but gained favor over time. Child followed this book with the widely popular *The Frugal Housewife* in 1829, and in 1833 *An Appeal in Favor of That Class of Americans Called Africans*, which is considered the first book of the American abolitionist movement. *BAL* 3087.
