Octavo (23.5cm); publisher's blue gilt-lettered cloth; 1 leaf [title page],iv,[1-5],6-38,[1]-185pp; blue and white frontispiece, text printed using blue ink throughout. Moderate wear to cloth margins with some fraying along bottom edges and spine ends, brief scattered soil to rear cover, textblock uniformly toned and one early gathering starting; overall a Very Good example of this rare work. Collected reports of experiments on sunlight originally expanded from Pleasonton's 24pp. pamphlet On the Influence of the Blue Colour of the Sky in Developing Animal and Vegetable Life, read before the Philadelphia Society for Promoting Agriculture. The frontispiece reproduces a sketch of Pleasonton's Philadelphia grapery (a sort of green house), "displaying the arrangement of the Blue and Transparent Glasses.".
