Gift inscription in ink on fep. Donald Worthington Reynolds (September 23, 1906 - April 2, 1993) was an American businessman and philanthropist. In accordance with its articles of incorporation, the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation was designated to terminate rather than continue in perpetuity. Its board of trustees determined that the foundation would cease to make grants by the year 2022. In fact, the foundation liquidated its assets and closed its doors at the end of 2017 The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association opened the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center in 2006. These exhibit spaces would not have been possible without two major grants, totaling 24 million dollars, from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation and support from the foundation's chairman, Fred W. Smith. The Museum and Education Center presents a fascinating array of Mount Vernon artifacts. There are 23 galleries and theaters where visitors learn about Washington through interactive displays, an action adventure movie, short films produced by The History Channel, immersive experiences, and a rich and comprehensive collection of more than 700 objects which give an unprecedented look at the personal effects of the Washington family. Explore the personal stories of the people enslaved at Mount Vernon while providing insight into George Washington's evolving opposition to slavery.
