With a pencil note on the rear blank by an early North Carolina owner, echoing the myth of the lost cause: "How horrible is war! I hope I will never live through one, and how cruel and heartless were the mean low life yankees. They will yet reap a just punishment for the cruelty I hope. May all the true hearted and brave southern soldiers who fought so bravely and earnestly have ever lasting joy is my wish now & always" Very scarce, with only a single example in the auction records since the Streeter sale (Streeter's copy sold for $120 in 1967, though was a presentation copy to Jefferson Davis!).
