Hard. Used, very good condition, owner's signature and date on front endpaper (Mrs J. O. Reed December 1904), no other internal marks, hinges good, binding good, no foxing, corners very slightly rounded, lettering sharp, bright covers, book slightly cocked,Langton, M.B. HOW TO KNOW ORIENTAL RUGS. 1904, 1st printing, D. Appleton and Co., New York, (also 1906, 1908, 1920 ?, 1930 printings) 244 p., 20 illus., 12 in color, 19.5 x 13.5 cm. At the time, this was one of 4 American books on Oriental rugs. An early introductory book, useful for the illustrations and to reveal the state of knowledge, or lack of it, at the turn of the century. But the rugs that are illustrated are 19th century. The ones color are Ghirodes, Siraz, Kermanshah, "Royal Senna", Sarabnd, Ferghan, Kashan, Kazak, Kula, Bokhara, Peking and a Persian silk rug. The black and white illustrations are Khorsan, Daghestan, Chichi, Shirvan, Persian Kurd, Mossoul (Turkish or Iraqi Kurd?), Bergamo and Samarkand.
