A propos de cet article
"How to Know the Wild Flowers, A Guide to the Names, Haunts, and Habits of Our Common Wild Flowers," (1893, 1st edition, 4th printing) by Mrs. William Starr Dana (Frances Theodora Parsons) is a pioneering field guide to American wildflowers. Designed for amateur botanists and nature lovers, the book provides descriptions of various wildflowers found in the northeastern United States, organized by color and season for easy identification. Parsons combines scientific accuracy with engaging prose, making botany accessible to a broad audience. The guide includes practical observations on habitat, blooming periods, and distinguishing characteristics. Illustrated with detailed drawings, it became one of the first widely used field guides in America, influencing later works in nature study and conservation. The 4th edition of How to Know the Wild Flowers (1893) includes over 100 illustrations, primarily botanical drawings that help readers identify various wildflowers. These illustrations were created by Marion Satterlee, providing detailed visual references to accompany Parsons' descriptions. THIS book has a previous owners signature lightly on first page, and the 4th section (signature) is becoming loose at the top, but is still bound, because the threads were apparently never pulled tight (unbroken but looped between pages 40 & 41). Some light foxing randomly on several pages. Interesting volume. Hard cover edition without dustjacket. 298 pages. Dimensions: 5.5" by 8".
