Knopf, 1958; stated first edition, no later printings indicated; xiii, 236, [1], vii, [2]pp., with tipped-in Chinese spirit paper and paper made at the author's Lime Rock, CT mill, plus b&w photo plates sections in each chapter. Included with the book is an undated six-page brochure titled "Welcome to the Dard Hunter Paper Museum and the Collections of the Institute of Paper Chemistry. Appleton, Wisconsin", which contains a short bio of Hunter preceded by descriptions and a map of the exhibition, which was housed at Lawrence College's Institute of Paper Chemistry from 1954-1989. The collection is now part of the Renewable Biproducts Institute at Georgia Tech. Binding is tight, sturdy, and square; very minor wear to edges of brick red cloth boards, corners sharp, gilt/blue titling remains bright and bold; illustrations and text very good throughout; uneven toning to front end page, from a since-removed piece of paper. Very minor wear to edges of unclipped ($5.00) dust jacket; very mild toning to spine panel; jacket arrives wrapped in protective mylar. This copy was purchased by noted collector Abel Berland from renowned Chicago bookseller Jerry Nedwick, as noted and signed by Berland in pencil on the back endpaper. It has his bookplate on the front free endpaper, and laid in is a leaflet, ACTA: Christophori Beiisii. printed on handmade paper by the Cuckoo Hill Press in England for the Typophiles, and bears relation to the book.
