A propos de cet article

Holt (1872-1951) served as editor and publisher of the liberal weekly magazine The Independent in New York from 1897 to 1921, and was a founding member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). An outspoken advocate for immigrant rights, he collected these touching life stories of ordinary people - new immigrants and sharecroppers, cooks and fishermen, women and men working in sweatshops, in the city, and on the land. Octavo: vii, [1, blank], 299, [1, blank] pp. Original blue cloth binding, with gilt-stamped titling. The bookplate of Eugene Katz and his signature appear on the front endpaper. The top edge is dust stained. The spine is darkened a bit, with the shadow of a small label. Some general shelfwear to the boards.
