A propos de cet article

Scarce first edition recording through 26 letters a journey from London to Edinburgh & Glasgow via Yorkshire and Northumberland on the journey North and returning via Cumberland, Westmoreland and Lancashire. About two thirds of the book is devoted to describing Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Scottish lowlands. Written by an opinionated, educated but unidentified English Commercial Traveller who as well as describing the locations and scenery gives a commentary of the political, economic, and social conditions offering detailed, insightful observations on Scottish society, commerce, landscapes, and culture just after the Napoleonic Wars. First Edition: title page, vii -xii, vi [Preface bound after Contents], 224 pp plus errata slip collated and complete. Contemporary marbled wrappers in good condition with some minor rubbing and edge wear; light spotting to preliminaries; text block age toned, unmarked; binding entirely sound. Printed in the Glasgow Chronicle Office. OCLC records only 2 institutional copies at the British Library and University of St Andrews; Copac adds Aberdeen.
