Baron Charnwood was an English author, academic, Liberal politician and philanthropist. Lady Charnwood, who presented this book to Nottingham University, was instrumental in jump starting what became Aston Martin motor cars as Bamford & Martin which was going bankrupt in the early twenties. In 1924 she acquired the fledgling brand and put her son John Benson on the board. Bamford & Martin got into financial difficulty again in 1925 and Martin was forced to sell the company. Later that year, Bill Renwick, Augustus Bertelli and investors including Lady Charnwood took control. They renamed it Aston Martin Motors and moved to the former Whitehead Aircraft Ltd. Hanworth works in Feltham. The rest of the story has become a most iconic example of luxurious industriousness. Insured post. Size: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" Tall.
