The book that is often cited as introducing the zombies to America in popular culture. The Magic Island is an illustrated account of William Buehler Seabrook?s travels in Haiti, documenting his experiences his experiences with vodou, witchcraft and magic. Vodou is a syncretic religion, developing after slaves arrived in Haiti, combing African folk traditions with the severe realities of slavery. The idea of the ?zonbi? can be traced to the Kongo word for soul.

In-8 (22 x 15 cm), 319-(1) pp., percaline éditeur illustrée. Publisher's cloth. Bon exemplaire. N° de réf. du vendeur 30871
