In addition to the brothers Hubert and Jan van Eyck, the "Master of Flemalle," who has often been identified with the painter Robert Campin of Tournai (ca. 1375-1444/45), and Rogier van der Weyden (1399/1400-1464), who worked in Campin's workshop between 1427 and 1432 before moving to Brussels to assume the position of city painter, played crucial roles in this development.
