A propos de cet article

408 pp., frontispiece of the author. Rebound in 1/4 clay cloth and brown paper. 45 engraved and lithographed plates including two color foldout maps (United States and New York State) and the long geological foldout of the Erie Canal. The foldout protrudes beyond the edges and its margin has closed tears and folds, but none affects the illustration itself. 8 facsimiles of testimonial letters. A paper presentation label from the City of New York is affixed to the front pastedown, as is a small previous owner's sticker. There is foxing throughout, most sigjnificantly on the frontispiece and title page. The plates are well preserved with an occasional closed tear, and pencil marginalia on a few. Cadwallader D. A proponent of a national canal system, he was commissioned by the Common Council of New York City to write his Memoir on the Erie Canal during the last days of its construction in 1825. A well bound copy. Size: 8 3/4" x 11". …
