Item description from seller

Anchor Press / Doubleday, 1977; Garden City New York. Hard Cover. Book condition: Very Good. Dust jacket condition: Good. Stated "First Edition", assumed printing due to the absence of any number line. Hardcover in unclipped dust jacket. 8-1/2" tall, 399 numbered pages includes "Selected Bibliography" and "Index". This book is very nice condition: it does have a slight lean but is spotlessly clean, free of corner bumps and edge dings with slight bumping at the head of the spine; hinges are strong. Except for an inked name/date/city on the back of the FFEP and about a dozen pages that have browning from newspaper articles that were inserted long ago (the browning does not ever obscure the text), the interior is perfectly clean and completely free of writing, stray marks, stains and any sort of paper damage. Not remaindered, ex-library or Book Club edition. The dust jacket is clean and free of tears, scratches and scrapes, with slight wear and color loss on the front fold and the heel of the spine; spine is also noticeably faded. But worse--there was masking tape, since removed, on the back side, along all edges, along both folds and on the entire width of the spine; that tape has not affected the binding at all but has darkened the jacket, especially on the flaps and on the rear panel (see photo). Jacket is now protected by mylar jacket cover. The political philosophy of the fictional 1890's saloon keeper in Chicago, who was as well known in his day as is Doonesbury in the 21st century; there are many of the newspaper columns here, with commentary and analysis by Barbara Schaaf.
