First printing of the first UK edition, and first hardcover edition, published by Neville Spearman in 1976. The book first appeared in the US as a paperback original (PBO) with a different title "Khrushchev Killed Kennedy", self-published by the author (perhaps as no mainstream publisher would take it, as the author attempts to prove the conspiracy theory that the Russians, at the time of Nikita Khrushchev plotted to assassinate President John F. Kennedy and did just that on November 22, 1963?) This hardcover edition was given a slightly less libelous title and has an errata slip pasted on the printer's page (please see scans). Illustrated with 20 pages of black and white photographs. ***Very good in red cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The boards are slightly rubbed and marked, commensurate with age and handling, but are relatively clean. Head and tail of the spine slightly creased, but no other bumps or creases. Corners sharp. Slight reading lean to the binding and a light vertical reading crease. Spine tight. Top edge of page block clean - other edges slightly marked and foxed. Internally also very good, with no previous ownership inscriptions. Please note that there is some internal foxing, mainly affecting the preliminary few pages and the first and last photographic pages (please see scans). No serious creases or tears - just a small lower corner tip crease to one page. ***In a very good illustrated dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of £4.50 net at the bottom of the front flap. The dustwrapper is complete, but is rubbed and creased at the corner tips of the front panel. Edges of dustwrapper slightly rubbed and creased. The spine is clean and the red titles remain unfaded. ***222mm x 145mm. 352 pages. ***'Michael Henry Beaumont Eddowes (8 Oct 1903 - 28 Dec 1993) was a British lawyer, author, and investigator, best known for his involvement in the Profumo affair and for his conspiracy theory involving Lee Harvey Oswald. In 1975, Eddowes authored "The Oswald File", in which he claimed that a Soviet imposter took the place of Lee Harvey Oswald when Oswald was in the Soviet Union, came to the United States where he assassinated United States president John F. Kennedy, and was subsequently buried in Oswald's grave. Eddowes asserted there were differences between Oswald and the autopsy performed by Earl Rose. He mentioned that Oswald was 5 ft 11 in (180 cm) in height according to his U.S. Marine Corps records, and that the Dallas pathologists said the assassin they autopsied was 5 ft 9 in (175 cm). In his book, Eddowes cites several times after Oswald's return from the Soviet Union when he gave his height as 5 ft 11 in if asked but when he was actually measured he was a few inches shorter. The corpse also had a large scar on the wrist; Eddowes stated that Oswald had no such scar. Eddowes argued that, as a child, Oswald had a mastoid operation that left him with a depression in the flesh behind one of his ears, as well as a dime sized hole in his skull, and that the corpse of the man Jack Ruby killed had no such depression or hole in the skull. Eddowes sought action in Texas courts and the body was exhumed in 1981. The body, in an advanced state of decomposition, proved to be Oswald. The exhumation was reported to have cost Eddowes between $8,000 and $15,000.' (Wiki) ***First (and only?) printing of the first UK edition, and only hardcover edition, complete in its original dustwrapper - of interest to historians researching the death of President Kennedy and conspiracy theories around the death. A most uncommon book. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.***.…
