The present work describes Keppel's second major journey, on which he visited Constantinople, Scutari and Smyrna, following that of his travels home overland from India, where he served as aide-de-camp to the Governor-General, the Marquess of Hastings. He arrived in Constantinople in 1829, stays with ambassador Sir Robert Gordon at Therapia, and visits the Turkish flagship and the Kaptan Pasha.
