Synopsis

Peter Bailey's long interest in the Newhaven-Dieppe cross-channel service started during the 1920's. His father was an Excise Officer in H.M. Customs at Newhaven and when Peter first saw "Paris IV" moored at the Marine Workshops in 1924 he soon became fascinated with the ships, their histories and the changing fortunes of this determined Channel Service. In 1969 he was one of the founders of the Local Historical Society, the Museum of which contains one of the most important collections of Maritime History on the South Coast. L'intérêt permanent de Peter Bailey pour le Service Transmanche Newhaven-Dieppe a pris naissance dans les années 1920. Son père était officier dans les Douanes Royales à Newhaven, et lorsque Peter vit pour la première fois le "Paris IV" amarré devant les Ateliers de la Marine il en resta aussitôt fasciné par les navires, leur histoire et les fortunes changeantes de cette relation particulière à travers la Manche. En 1969, il fut l'un des fondateurs de la Société Historique Locale, dont le Musée contient l'une des plus importantes collections de l'Histoire Maritime de la côte Sud de l'Angleterre.
