A propos de cet article

The First American Edition of Alistair MacLean's "Night Without End" is a 1960 Doubleday first from the peak years of one of the greatest adventure thriller writers of the 20th century, and a book Hollywood had already optioned before it even hit shelves. An airliner comes screaming down out of the Greenland sky and crashes nose-first into the polar ice cap. Temperatures sit at 40 below zero. The nearest settlement is 300 kilometers away. Dr. Peter Mason and his small team of scientists pull the survivors from the wreckage and immediately face a harder question than survival: someone on that plane shot the pilot before it went down. Somebody in this freezing, stranded group is a killer, and the clock is already running out for everyone. MacLean was writing at the absolute height of his powers here, the same stretch that produced The Guns of Navarone and Where Eagles Dare. The atmosphere is suffocating, the tension relentless. The back flap of this very copy notes that the book had already been selected by Hollywood for a film starring Debbie Reynolds before it was even published. That's the kind of book this is. First Edition stated on the copyright page. Copyright © 1960 by Gilach A. G. (MacLean's Swiss holding company). Published by Doubleday & Company, Inc., Garden City, New York. Jacket painting by Arthur Shelstone. 287 pages. Book is in Good condition, with dark green cloth boards and silver lettering on spine, binding sound and tight, pages toned throughout with age (consistent with a 65-year-old copy), no inscriptions. Dust jacket Good, original $3.95 price intact and unclipped on front flap, atmospheric moody artwork by Arthur Shelstone present, significant wear and chipping at DJ spine crown with some loss, general toning and surface wear to panels, protected in Brodart mylar cover. An honestly graded copy of a scarce MacLean first American edition.…

Description de la boutique

You're building something specific. Not just a shelf of books: a library with atmosphere. The kind of room that feels like it has a history before you walked into it. The problem is finding the real thing. The vintage market is full of book club editions dressed up as first printings, reprints with no dust jackets, and sellers who grade "Good" when they mean "survived a flood." It's time-consuming, confusing, and easy to overpay. That's where I come in. I'm Rob. I worked in the archive stacks at UW's Suzzallo Library. Gothic reading rooms, stained glass, the kind of place where books feel like they matter. I've been authenticating and grading vintage editions ever since. Now I spend weekends hunting first editions at estate sales across Northern California: literary horror, classic sci-fi, and Gothic fiction from the 1960s–1980s. The books that actually built the Dark Academia aesthetic, not the modern reprints cashing in on it. Every book in my shop has been verified for edition and graded honestly. Sometimes brutally. You'll know exactly what you're getting before it ships. Your order arrives wrapped in tissue paper with a wax seal sticker. Because the details matter, and you're not buying shelf filler. If you're building a library that looks like it belongs in a Victorian study instead of a big-box store, you're in the right place. Browse the collection.…
