Front board features Richard Ruark facsimile signature in tan. Pages fine, clean; no writing. Brown colored top-stain. Enchanting natural drawings and vignettes by Walter Dower greet at beginning of each of the twenty-eight chapters. Bind fine, square; hinges intact. Inconic wrap-around pictorial wrapper with white and black titles, moderate edge wear, rub, toning, discoloration, light outline of award medallion; clipped, protected in new clear sleeve. Wrapper design with color scene by Walter Dower of man and boy fishing beneath enormous green tree with red bands above and below. Scarce near fine first edition in near very good wrapper. This classic captures the endearing relationship between a man and his grandson as they fish and hunt the lakes and woods of North Carolina. All the while the Old Man acts as teacher and guide, passing on his wisdom and life experiences to the boy, who listens in rapt fascination.
