Original illustrated uniform leatherette ring binders in silver, bronze, blue, red, etc., with black illustrations and lettering on cover. Texts and directions, e.g. for "up the roll" orders, how to read order number code, etc. printed to inside covers or separate unnumbered ring bound sheets or pages, with fabric samples mounted selvedge to selvedge onto pages with thumb tab cut-ins at foredges. These sample catalogs were distributed by Northwest Distributors in Portland. The 1964 volume with printed samples instead of authentic material. With more than 8,000 individual textile samples, cotton, wool, polyester blends, vinyls and other artificial leathers, imported leathers, as well as headliners and other interior trims. Comprehensive set providing an overview of the prevalent 1960s and early 70s in American car manufacturers and the brand models while providing a vivid sample of application of color systems in the industry. First editions of this uncommon and invaluable salesman sample archive for automobile interiors through the height of the Muscle Car era. Perfect Fit Manufacturing was established in Portland in 1924, and McDonald & Co. in 1912 in Seattle, and they were initially competitors who came under the same ownership in 1965. J. Cyril Lowit and his father founded Perfect Fit to manufacture automobile seat covers, carpet sets, and tire covers as car accessories when many manufacturers did not offer these to car buyers. They sold to major catalogue stores, such as Montgomery Ward, Marshall-Wells, and others. After World War II, The Perfect Fit Co. & McDonald began buying large quantities of factory overrun interior upholstery and trim fabrics, as well as topping materials offering car owners the chance to buy original materials long after being out of stock with the manufacturer. Each catalogue is divided into manufacturer sections such as Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, Nash, Rambler, Lark Willy's, American Motors, Studebakers, and Kaiser Jeep. These catalogues are filled with the samples of the upholstery and interior trims for such classics as the Chevelle SS, Chargers, Torinos, Javelin & AMX SST, Camaros, Challengers, Mustangs, Cougars, Barracudas, Firebirds, El Caminos, Corvettes, 1970 Ford Cobra, Ford Falcons, Ford Thunderbirds, as well as Impala SS, Corvairs, Mercury Comets, Lincolns, De Sotos, Gnash Ramblers, and many others. Perfect-Fit maintained an amazing back stock, sometimes extending nearly 10 years. In the 1961 catalogues you could still purchase samples for 1957 cars, or artificial leather (Vinyl) in all the manufacturers' colors for the 1958-59 Ford Thunderbirds. They also advertised original factory inserts for seats, floors, and door panels for such cars as Thunderbirds, Grand Prix, 1961-1962 Corvettes, Lemans, Impala SS Convertibles, Nova SS Convertibles, and many others. The upholstery samples offer an incomparable reference for tracing the evolution of colors, styles, and designs for American Cars through the 1960s, and into the early 1970s. Most volumes with light soiling, though about half in very good condition; most inside covers with sunning and/or light soiling along edges, and usual wear to inside pages, e.g. creasing and rubbed. Minor pen markings in volumes 1963, 1966, 1967, 1971, and 1972. Some pages with one or two punch holes torn but staying firm. Missing sample in volumes 1961 (2), 1963 (4), 1965 (4), and 1972 (4). Remarkable collection of automotive interior supplies from more than a decade of the American Auto Industry at its height. Overall in good- to very good+ condition.…

In addition, we maintain a beguiling selection of original works of art and photography. Eric Chaim Kline provides appraisal services for estate, insurance and tax purposes, often helping to match book donors with libraries and museums. We purchase books of merit and entire collections; we also take books on consignment with favorable terms. Traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe, Eric Chaim Kline has been buying and selling old and rare books since the 1980¿s, when in graduate school at Brandeis University. Proprietor of bookshops in several Los Angeles locations since 1985, he hosts visitors by appointment in our lively bookstore and ships books to collectors, libraries and museums worldwide. Kline occasionally lectures on topics in book collecting and Jewish studies.
