First edition, first printing. Publisher's original blue cloth with white titles to the spine and an illustration in white to the upper board, in dustwrapper. Map endpapers. Illustrated throughout with line drawings by Jules Feiffer. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the extremities a little rubbed and very slightly bumped. The contents, with a previous owner's inscription to the title page, are otherwise clean throughout. Complete the good, rubbed, nicked and creased, price-clipped dustwrapper that has a closed tear down the entire length of the front panel which has been repaired on both sides with tape, along with a handful of other smaller tears at the edges. A fantastical children's literary classic which formed the basis for a 1970 Chuck Jones produced film of the same name, as well as opera and musical theatre adaptations. Illustrated by the Pulitzer Prize and Academy Award winning cartoonist Jules Feiffer who shared a house with Juster while he was writing 'The Phantom Tollbooth'.
