The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Alain Badiou's "Polemics" in a felicitous English translation. His political and philosophical essays. His philosophical approach is part mathematical (Cantor's Set Theory), part rationalist (Analytic Philosophy), and part poetic (Continental Philosophy). Were it not for Alain Badiou's revaluation of "experience" (in the historical rather than personal sense) in subsequent volumes such as "Polemics", his "Being And Event" masterwork would have been relegated to mere academicism by the constipated and self-absorbed tendentiousness of his attempt to unite Continental with British ("Anglo-American") philosophy. Instead, radical and all-encompassing, Badiou's oeuvre now towers over contemporary philosophy as a grand Romantic gesture in the manner not seen since Sartre. À propos de l’auteur
Bruno Bosteels, Professor of Romance Studies at Cornell University, is the author of Badiou and Politics, Marx and Freud in Latin America, and The Actuality of Communism. He is also the translator of several books by Alain Badiou: Theory of the Subject, Can Politics Be Thought? and What Is Antiphilosophy? Essays on Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, and Lacan. He currently serves as the General Editor of Diacritics.
Peter Hallward teaches at the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy at Kingston University, London. He is the author of several books including Absolutely Postcolonial, Badiou: A Subject to Truth, Out of This World: Deleuze and the Philosophy of Creation, and Damming the Flood.
Ray Brassier is Professor of Philosophy at the American University of Beirut and a founding member of the Beirut Institute for Critical Analysis and Research (BICAR), which aims to promote critical thought and analysis with a special focus on Lebanon and the Middle East. His first book was Nihil Unbound: Enlightenment and Extinction. He is the translator of Alain Badiou's St. Paul: The Foundation of Universalism and Quentin Meillassoux's After Finitude. He edited Alain Badiou's Theoretical Writings (with Alberto Toscano), Nick Land's Fanged Noumena (with Robin Mackay), and Herbert Marcuse's Psychoanalysis, Politics, and Philosophy: Five Lectures. He lives in Beirut, Lebanon.
