Presumed first edition (not stated but per OCLC). 162 pages. Hardcover: H 15.75cm x L 10cm. Original dark brown cloth covers rubbed; modest sunning to spine; gilt lettering upon front cover remains quite bright. Short tear at top margin of title leaf. A collection of prayers for weekday mornings, weekday evenings, Sabbath mornings, Sabbath evenings, and special occasions (communion, birth of a child, baptism of a child, etc.). Affixed to front pastedown is the personal bookplate of Mrs. Thomas Percy Howard (aka Willie Georgia Abbay Howard, 1891-1988, of Tunica, Mississippi) which is of disproportionate size and mid-20th century in style. A very good copy. Stratton served as minister of Natchez's Presbyterian Church from 1843-1893 and was pastor emeritus from 1893 until his passing in 1903. This 1887 edition is evidently a scarce Reconstruction-era Mississippi imprint for OCLC does not locate any institutional holdings (however OCLC does cite an 1888 Richmond, Virginia imprint of 185 pages issued by the Presbyterian Committee of Publication which is held by ten member libraries).
