A propos de cet article

A very clean copy. An extensively illustrated exploration of pattern, fibre and fabric traditions throughout the Pacific. Drawing on contemporary photography, historical material and museum collections, it examines weaving, plaiting, binding, knotting, barkcloth, body decoration and architectural patterns, as well as the natural and modern materials used to create them. It considers both ceremonial and everyday objects, including mats, baskets, clothing and domestic interiors, while tracing the effects of European contact, colonialism and contemporary culture on Pacific design. Photography by Glenn Jowitt provides a strong visual record of the continuing creativity and cultural significance of Pacific pattern-making.
