A Near Fine copy. An instructive manual from the late nineteenth century about the art of oratory for different occasions. This is a compendium containing advice for oral presentation and many examples of poetry and prose to practice one's craft of oration. The following are brief summaries for each of the book's eight parts with some of the descriptions containing quotes from the Preface. Part I: "The Mind Speaking Through the Body"; about voice training, vocal volume, use of pauses, proper posture, and facial expressions and gestures to convey specific meanings and emotions. Part V: "Grave and Pathetic Readings": "a rare collection of recitals that touch the heart and arouse its deepest emotions. The great masters of pathos are here fully represented ."
