Synopsis :

In these classic "Locas" stories, Jaime drops a narrative bomb on Hopey (and us) in "Wigwam Bam"; Maggie contends with her inner demons, a murderous hooker, and an amorous lady wrestler; and Maggie, getting married?

À propos de l?auteur: Jaime Hernandez was one of six siblings born and raised in Oxnard, California. His mother passed down a love of comics, which for Jaime became a passion rivaled only by his interest in the burgeoning punk rock scene of 1970s Southern California. Together with his brothers Gilbert and Mario, Jaime co-created the ongoing comic book series Love and Rockets in 1981, which Gilbert and Jaime continue to both write and draw to this day. Jaime's work began as a perfect (if unlikely) synthesis of the anarchistic, do-it-yourself aesthetic of the punk scene and an elegant cartooning style that recalled masters such as Charles M. Schulz and Alex Toth. Love and Rockets has evolved into one of the great bodies of American literary fiction, spanning five decades and countless high-water marks in the medium's history. In 2016, Hernandez won the prestigious Los Angeles Times Book Prize for his graphic novel, The Love Bunglers. In 2017, he (along with Gilbert) was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame, and, in 2018, he released his first children's book, the Aesop Book Prize-winning The Dragon Slayer: Folktales from Latin America. He is a lifelong Angeleno.

Softcover without dust jacket. Ex-Library book with appropriate stamps, stickers and markings. Book tape to spine. Minimal wear to corners and edges. Pages clean and unmarked with B & W illustrations to panels. This story begins with the graphic novel Wigwam Am, in which Maggie, Hopey and their friends prowl Hoppers, the East Coast, and points between, trying to recapture the carefree spirit of their earlier days--or at least hook up with one another. In the second half, more lost than ever, Maggie wanders from a one-laundromat town in Texas to her wrestling aunt's "Camp Vicki"; in one she contends with hooker who has it out for her, and in the other, she fends off the amorous advances of a wrestling champ-to-be. Plus; a rousing free-for-all slugfest as the wrestlers Rena Titanon and El Diablo facing off against a sextet of thugs.and the long-delayed reunion of Maggie and Hopey! These stories originally appeared in Love and Rockets Vol. 1 #33-50. N° de réf. du vendeur 13922

Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. Perla begins with the "Wigwam Bam" story, arguably Jaime Hernandez's definitive statement on the post-punk culture. As Maggie, Hopey, and the rest of the Locas prowl Los Angeles, the East Coast, and parts in between trying to recapture the carefree spirit of those early days. "Wigwam Bam" brings us up to date on all the members of Jaime's extensive cast of characters and then drops a narrative bomb on Hopey (and us) in the very last pages. Split up from Hopey yet again, Maggie bounces back and forth between a one-laundromat town in Texas (the "Chester Square" that serves as the title of two of the strongest stories in the book), where she has to contend with both her own inner demons and a murderous hooker, and Camp Vicki, where she has to fend off her aunt Vicki's attempts to make her a professional wrestler and the unwanted advances of the amorous wrestling champ-to-be, Gina. As usual, Jaime spotlights a wide range of headstrong female characters. And what's this about Maggie getting married? A collection of stories from the creator of Locas, Jaime Hernandez.
