First edition, quarto; xviii,284,[2]pp, without half title and allegorical frontispiece but with closing errata leaf and 31 plates including map, and numerous in-text woodcuts. Bound in twentieth century straight-grained half morocco over marbled boards (with only the slightest of wear), five raised spine bands between gilt rolls, gilt rolls to head and tail of spine, gilt-lettered green title label to second compartment and gilt rosettes to remaining compartments. Early ink ownership inscription to head of title page ('Mary Kerr 1809'), opening and closing leaves lightly stained by turn ins, early marginal pencil note to p,147, most plates tissue guarded, a very attractive copy of this beautifully illustrated description of the Avon from its source, through Kenilworth Warwick and Stratford (including a handful of plates of Shakespearian interest), then on through Bidford Evesham Pershore Eckington and Strensham, concluding at Tewkesbury.
