One black-and-white frontispiece portrait of the author, complete. Endpapers have much fading and browning and front and back free endpapers each have a chip and small crease. Covers are very clean and intact except for slight darkening, a few small stains on front, and slight wear to extremities. A Near Fine copy. A collection of poems by author John W. Beebe. In his Preface, Beebe explains that the title of this book alludes to the diverse nature of the poems herein, as varied and "free as the wild flowers." Another excerpt; this one from "A Morning in the Country. (A Pastoral Monologue.)": "In the country by the wayside, / In the woods, or by the stream, / Where the view by nature's bounded, Where her children live and dream, ." A third excerpt; from "Evening": The sun sinketh low, / The evening winds blow, / The sweet waters flow; / The night-hawk doth scour / O'er the plain, where the flower / Blooms sweet by the hour; / The dark clouds gather, / Denoting bad weather / Ere long. On heather / The dew is fast falling, / The cows are all bawling, / While th' milkmaid is calling / Them home. Night is coming, .".…
