Synopsis :

This is a book for Death Valley enthusiasts that describes the historic and prehistoric environments (geology, climate, rivers and lakes, vegetation, and animals) from 28,500 years ago through the present. The intent is to foster an understanding of the region's prehistoric and historic Native Americans by identifying the multiplicity of environments that had challenged them during the Late Pleistocene (28,500 to 11,500 years ago YA), Early Holocene (11,500 to 8,000 YA), Middle Holocene (8,00 to 4,000 YA), and Late Holocene (4,000 YA to Historic Times) time frames. Also, for those time frames, topics discussed weapons, projectile points and tools, plant and animal food sources, trade, petroglyphs, pictographs, rock alignments, geoglyphs, pottery, basketry, and relations with other tribes. Chronological historic events and representative prominent Death Valley region Native Americans complete the book.
